Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to adopt a dog?

Potential adopters must be approved before adopting one of our dogs. You can complete an application online or in-person at any of our adoption events.

How do i meet adoptable dogs?

Dogs under PuppyLoveKY’s care reside in foster homes. To schedule a meet-and-greet, please contact us directly, and we’ll arrange a convenient time for you.  We also host adoption events weekly.  You can meet most of our adoptables at one of these events.

For dogs located at MCAS (Mercer County Animal Shelter), you can visit them at 896 Moberly Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Not long!  Once you’ve submitted our adoption application we move quickly to check references.  In most cases your new best friend is on the way home with you the same day you apply.

How Much Does Adopting Cost?

Adult dogs are $200

Puppies are $250

What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?

Fostering is a rewarding way to volunteer.  As a foster you would welcome a new dog into your home to help them acclimate and decompress from shelter life.  Foster dogs are still looking for their forever home while in foster care.  Fostering allows us to pull dogs from kill shelters and save their lives while getting them ready for adoption into a loving forever home.  Most people think fostering would be hard, but its very rewarding to save lives and leave a legacy of hope for homeless pets.

Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?

Yes. While PuppyLoveKY does get all dogs spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines there may be other veterinary expenses needed.

Can I take A Pet Home Directly From the Shelter?

Yes.  If you adopt from a local shelter you can take a dog directly home.  In most cases, you can also take a dog directly from PuppyLoveKY adoption events.  We just need a completed application and time to check references.
